Coalition Joins Forces with City to Fight Cemex Plant PDF Print E-mail
The Santa Clarita Disaster Coalition (SCVDC) has joined the City of Santa Clarita and U.S. Congressman Howard P. "Buck" McKeon in their efforts to stop the proposed CEMEX mega-mine in Soledad Canyon, on the northeast edge of the city limits.

Santa Clarita Mayor Laurene Weste expressed her pleasure with the Coalition's decision in an exclusive interview conducted by local journalist Stephen K. Peeples for this site and My Santa Clarita .com, the SCV's premier community website.

Representative McKeon's Soledad Canyon Mine Leases Adjustment Act, HR 5471, would avert this colossal ecological and quality-of-life disaster-in-the-making by providing CEMEX alternate locations to mine, and keeping mining in Soledad Canyon at historic or current levels.

However, as McKeon's bill is discussed in the fall session of Congress, the House Resources Committee in Washington, D.C. and other Federal leaders need to hear we locals are united behind the proposed legislation.

There's a lot you can do to help with just a few clicks of your mouse.

Please take a moment right now to send emails of support for HR 5471 to:

Our other Federal, State and County representatives also need to hear  from us. This is election season and they need to know we're watching who supports CEMEX and who doesn't.

City residents who received postage-free postcards in the mail pre-addressed to Representative McKeon and Senators  Feinstein and Boxer should mail them now if they haven't already. If you didn't receive them, you can download and print out the front and back of the cards, then sign and mail them.

Please email City of Santa Clarita Staffer This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to let the City know what you did to support HR 5471.
